That sounds like a weird title for a post. But wait till you know the story behind it.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the internet as we know it:World Wide Web.

Actually it has been 16,480 days since the internet was born, that is about 45 years.

Just for a moment imagine a life without cyberspace. No YouTube, no Gangnam Style video (most viewed video so far, viewed more than 2 billion times since 2012), no dating sites(millions of people have met on Match.com), no virtual estates, no Facebook and NO BLOGGING!

It is scary. All of us would have been total strangers, sitting at our desks in different parts of the world, leading a mundane existence. I could not have read the lovely blogs you write. I could not have connected with people having the same problems  as mine. I could not have asked for help to http://aopinionatedman.com/ as I did today.

So you see how important is the World Wide Web to us. Sit back today and revel in the happiness that the web was born. Say thanks to Tim Berners- Lee who invented the World Wide Web.

Today, almost one-third of the world’s 6.8 billion people use the Internet regularly.

Some other names of pioneers of internet usage are J.C.R. Licklider, Leonard Kleinrock and Lawrence Roberts.

The term ‘surfing‘ the internet , which we casually use today, was coined by Jean Armour Polly, a librarian in 1992. No wonder she is called the ‘Net Mom’.

Today say a big thank you to all these wonderful people who helped create a fantasy world for us to live in.

  1. As grateful as I am with the Internet you can also argue about the bad stuff the internet has brought too. I see the Internet as just another world filled with some good people and some bad people. But good post nonetheless 🙂
